In 'For Angela' I think those boys were being stupid and he probably never really thought about what he said but I think he was being really rude and what he said had an effect on both the mother and her daughter because the mother was mad at them. Then to make matters worse her daughter went and cut off her braids because she doesn't want to be and Indian. I think she did that because she doen`t want people to tease her anymore and she wanted to be like the white people because they never got teased, but guessing from what happened it didn't work very well. Actually I think that it made the mother even more mad at those boys because they caused that. I think that this was a very difficult situation for the mother and the daughter because you can't really do anyhting at the time it happens. I think that this never really should have happened and things like these make me sad because to think that humans, civilised or not, would do this to one another and the 'Indian Act' and all those thing the Europeans did to the first nations really scarred the history of mankind.I still wonder today what the world would be like if the Europeans never found North America and what would have happened if that never happened to the first nations.

Warren Marrison Essay
Warren Marrison
If you have ever wondered about how accurate clocks came into the world than you probably want to know about Warren Marrison. Warren has played a large part of our lives. If it was`t for him we probably would have been using pendulums still up to 1980`s. I think that Warren Marrison is a very important person and he changed the world. He didn`t accomplish much as far as his job at Bell telephone Laboratories though.
Warren Marrison was born in Inverary,Frontenac, Ontairio,Canada May12,1896. He was 24 when he went to Queens University in 1920. A year later he graduated with a Masters Degree. He then lived in New York, NY for a year in 1923.Five years later, he was working as a telecommunications engineer for Bell Telephone Laboratories. That year, still 53 years before his death in 1980, was when he made his invention. That is exactly what made him famous in 1927.
Warren invented the first working quartz clock in 1927. He made it because he found an opportunity to use his knowledge to make something useful. He made it at Bell Telephone Laboratories in New Jersey and he was working there to try find more reliable frequency standards. He wasn`t famous yet. It took alot of hard work but eventually he found, not reliable frequency standards, but a new way to keep time. At the age of 31, he was working on a previous project when he discovered how quartz produces a steady electric pulse when it is supplied with electricity.
The quartz clock is quite simple, really. Although his was much bigger the the ones nowadays but it still works the same way. First the battery supplies power to the circuitry board. It then goes to the quartz oscillator, which is basically a forked piece of quartz inside a sealed container. The quartz then vibrates at precise rates and the circuitry board detects these oscillations and turns them into electrical energy. The electircity goes to a small stepping motor that turns the second hand. All the hands are connected with gears inside and the second hand turns all the other hands. The quartz is what makes it so accurate. Although it is accurate it can still gain or lose time when the surrounding atmosphere changes dramatically.
The quartz clock is really accurate, but is it accurate enough? It may lose a couple of seconds each month if the temperature keeps changing dramatically. Also when pressure is applied to quartz it creates its own weak electric current. This may also cause the motor to move a little faster than it should, causing the timing to be off at the end of the year. To prevent this, modern watches have the quartz in a sealed container so the pressure is always the same. Although the older clock, using a pendulum, is different. To be accurate the pendulum clock depends on a much more consistent environment than the quartz clock.
Before Warren Marrison came along there was Galileo Galelei who discovered that a pendulum of a certain length always take the same time to swing no matter how heavy it is or how big a swing it makes. This is how he invented his clock. The pendulum clock relies on gravity. The trouble with a clock like this is that the pendulum will keep stopping. Air resistance and friction will soon use up all its energy and bring it to a halt. Thats why they have springs in them. Every day you wind up the spring inside the clock to store up energy for the next 24 hours. As the spring uncoils it powers gears inside the clock. Through a see-saw mechanism called a escapement the pendulum forces the gears to turn at a precise rate.
Of course we would probably have quartz watches or clocks by now but it would have taken longer for someone to discover or invent one. I would have liked to be him in his laboratory working all day tinkering with electronis and designing little clocks and figuring out how they work. I think he was very important to canadian heritage because he helped everyone in the world by providing them with accurate timepieces. Sure, nowaday they changed alot but they are still based on the same thing.

"Bullies push their victims to suicide"
Caroline Alphonso writes "Bullies push their victims to suicide" for "The Globe and Mail". Caroline Alphonso notes that school harassment is a matter of life and death. Dawn-Marie Wesley who, at the age of 14, was being bullied by "the toughest girls" in the school. In her suicide note she said that if she tries to get help it will get worse. Dawn-Marie`s younger brother found her in their Mission, B.C.,home, just east of Vancouver. She hung herself with a dog leash. Children mimic adult by saying what they say like speech laced with swears. Dawn-Marie killed herself on Nov.10 . Researchers are now saying that children harassing each other is getting more extremeacross the country.

The Amazing Floating Egg Lab
Ingredients | Observation of egg in water before adding ingredients | # of teaspoons added | Observations when ingredient added | Observation when water carefully added |
Salt | It sinks because the water has lower density than the egg. | 3 teaspoons | the egg started floating. The eggs density got lower than the waters density. It got more buoyant and started floating. | it sunk back down to the bottom. The egg sunk again because the waters density got lower than the eggs again and it wasn`t as buoyant. |
Epsom Salt | It sinks because the water has lower density than the egg. | 4 teaspoons | the egg started floating. The eggs density got lower than the waters density. It got more buoyant and started floating. | it sunk back down to the bottom. The egg sunk again because the waters density got lower than the eggs again and it wasn`t as buoyant. |
Sugar | It sinksbecause the water has lower density than the egg. | 8 teaspoons | the egg started floating. The eggs density got lower than the waters density. It got more buoyant and started floating. | it sunk back down to the bottom. The egg sunk again because the waters density got lower than the eggs again and it wasn`t as buoyant. |
Baking Soda | It sinks because the water has lower density than the egg. | 3 teaspoons | the egg started floating. The eggs density got lower than the waters density. Conclusion
· What did you notice while using each ingredient?
I noticed that the ingredients that has the smallest chunks dissolved faster and the egg started floating faster.
· Why do you think this occurred (use scientific language)?
I think this occured because the smaller the particles the easier they are to dissolve.
· Did everything go well during the lab? If no, what would you change next time?
yes everything went well

Progress Report Reflection
You received your progress report last Friday and you've had time to reflect on it for a few days. Now, I want you to do some writing on your reflections by answering the questions below in paragraph form. Be sure to edit your writing before you post it. Parents will be looking at your responses during 3-way conferences so make sure you do your best.
1.
I think I did really bad on my progress report because all my grades were low because some of them I didn`t hand in and I rushed on other ones and I didn`t do it right. I`m not very happy with my progress report and I hope that next term I do better. I`m not very happy with my grades because they were alot lower than last years and I was handing in almost everything but this year I didn`t and my grades dropped from mid eighties to lower seventies. I am not happy with anyhting on my progress report except I am glad I got some nineties. I could easily have got all nineties and I could have got way better grades but I didn`t hand in alot of stuff so I got zeroes and low marks.
2.
Next term I will hand in my assignments and my grades will go up. I will also spend more time working on my assignments so I do them better because some of them I wouldn`t work on them that much and them I would rush at the end and then they wouldn`t be done that good. Next term I will also try harder because my grades will really matter to me and they will really make a difference in my life.
- What do you think of your progress report? What are you happy with? Why are you not happy with?
- What can you do during term 2 in order to improve your progress report?

Holocaust Expository Writing
Prompt
Imagine Erica, Peter or Daniel's mother are still alive. Pick one of the three characters and ask yourself, "What questions would you like to ask the character?". Explain why your questions are important to you. Tell the character what you've learned and how you feel after hearing their story. If you can relate her experiences to any conditions facing your generation, explain those connections. Describe for the character what you will do to teach future generations the lessons you've learned from studying the Holocaust.
I would choose Daniels Mother. I would ask her how it feels to lose children in the holocaust and I would ask her if she hates the Germans now.I would ask her those questions because you would not be able to feel that unless it actually happened to you. I would also ask what she personally would like to do to the Germans if she had the power to do anything to them. Would she torture them or do the same thing to them that they did to her?
In the future to teach other generations I would teach them about it and what happened and as long as people still remember that the holocaust went on then it probably won`t happen again. I would also make sure that in my generation it doesn`t happen either. we should always remember what happened because if humanity forgets than history repeats itself. Bu still there are Genocides going on in the world and there always will but none of them are nearly as big as The Holocaust.
In my generation things like that are still happening but I can`t really do anything about it because I won`t be able to do anything. I would help and try to stop the genocide from happeneing. If I had the power to somehow stop them I would and I would stop other powerful people from causing or starting a genocide.

Video Games
Video games are good because you can learn more from some but some other games like Call of Duty don`t teach you anything. I think that almost all video games people play these days are almost all bad but there are still some that are good and not very many people play the educational games anymore. I think that people should play more educational ones every now and then instead of always playing the non-educational ones.

Holocaust Hope
In chapter 5, Daniel's father said that the radio was really important to the family. He said that it gave them hope and...
"Hope was more important than bread."
What did he mean? Do you agree or disagree with this statement?
I think he meant that without hope they would die.You won`t die if you run out of bread because you can get more. But once you lose hope you can`t just buy more. I think that he also wanted them to keep their hopes high so they won`t lose hope and give up. I agree with Daniels father in "Daniels Story" because he is right, if we didn`t have hope we would die because we won`t have hope that we can stay alive. Hope is more important than bread because you can eat bread and get it back but you can`t get hope back that easy. Some things that gave them hope was Erikas violin music and the radio.

The Importance of Literacy
Literacy is very important in everyday life because without it I have no idea where we`d be. If we didn`t have literacy we would have almost no way to communicate with today's technology. In order to blog, email, use facebook or twitter you will have to know how to read and write. I think that today's literacy is very low because not very many people know how to read even when they are in high school. I think our literacy level is so low because many people drop out of high school and many don`t go to university or even graduate high school. I think the key to success in life is to read alot and write everyday so your literacy level stays high. I personally love to read but I don`t like writing quite as much as reading.
